Quote from Frags :LFSW - new PB by Frags: 2:00.43 (-0:02.76)

(-0:02.76) this part... Is this the distance to benchmark or ?

it means your lap was 2 seconds and 76 hundreds faster than your earlier personal best

Quote from Cue-Ball :Are you using three pedals? If so, you will probably want to change your clutch pedal so that it does not need to be completely depressed in order to disengage. This can be done using the calibration lock option.

That way, when you press your clutch pedal, say, 3/4 of the way, LFS thinks it's completely depressed. It makes mis-shifts a lot less likely.

i use three pedals (four if i count the e-brake). i also use dxtweak to adjust sensitivity. haven't tried the (mis)calibration thing, i'll give it a shot.

i wonder if this would have something to do with bad shifts:

in dxtweak the values for my clutch axis (actually the throttle axis of Microsoft SideWinder FF USB) jump up and down somewhat, and in general it looks a lot less smooth than dfp pedals. should it be this way? dirty pot or really low resolution?

voted no, i'd hate to see devs wasting time with something like that..

on the other hand, more & harder training lessons would be nice

Quote from subhumanspunk :ic =] btw quick question about the manual gearing... if you choose manual you'd have to clutch it everytime right? either that or go auto? if it requires me to clutch it everytime if i choose manual its gonna be a problem for my dfp >.< and i don't like going auto since i have less control of the car

you have to use clutch (for cars with h-pattern)

dfp is no problem, just use button clutch

edit: it seems that i am no longer able to shift without clutch, just by matching revs. this worked in patch x10. for sake of completeness i hope we see this feature in patch Y. it shouldn't be too easy though, as it is difficult to do in real life.

good posts about the clutch-thingie

clutch heats up too fast IMO..

anyway, dont know if this is the right place, but..

i misshift a lot! i'm not gonna say it's the dev's fault. it's probably just that i have been driving wrong. X10 (and earlier) made it possible to be really sloppy with blipping and there was the "gear pre-select" -feature.

we just have to un-learn!

suggestion:

nasty grinding noise from transmission when the driver does something wrong and the gear won't engage.

discuss.

Quote from PioneerLv :Worst thing in this update:

Redline sound
. Guys we have tuned XRG and XFG here in X30!!! Totally dislike stock car redline sounds. They are OK for GTR class cars.

agreed.. in some cars the revs "bounce" off the rev limiter, i would rather like that

there is something strange about the axes / ff menu.

first time i started the new patch no axis worked. i replugged the usb connectors and reassigned everything, then it finally worked. dont remember what i did exactly, but at some point the available axes -list showed "x-axis" in every slot instead of all the axes i've got.

make a stationary wheel from cardboard and place in on your monitor

calibrate the wheel also inside lfs. too much force may cause erratic movement in the middle.

Quote :"LFS S2 is a serious racing simulator. No arcade modes, no steering aids - YOU have to do the driving. It is therefore highly recommended to drive the sim with a steering wheel, because even though you can use keyboard and/or mouse, a wheel is what you use in a real car, so a wheel should be used in a serious racing simulator. Especially when going online, where fast reactions are required."

dfp is great. i suggest you also buy a second wheel and use it's pedal as clutch. it can be a crappy one as you don't touch the wheel anyway

oh boo hoo!

every time we have a patch it's the same thing over again..

be grateful that LFS has keyboard/mouse controls in the first place. that way new players can try out the sim and see what it is about: realism. so yes, using a controller other than a ff wheel/3 pedal system should be at least a little slower. that doesn't mean it is impossible to have fun though!

in many games simplified (crap) car handling physics are a result of a compromise made because of people using unsuitable controllers like pads, keyboards.

i am glad devs are not going there despite the growing number of drifting and cruising teenagers they could welcome in the game by making it "easy".

if lfs was all about making profit, it would already have nos, drift tyres and suvs. with a dev team this small it would mean no resources for developing the things that made lfs so appealing in the first place: physics. now we don't want that do we?

/rant

about time we got rid of at least some of the driving aids
